In the first month of the school year, I’ve been busy working with our regional team to continue to expand and build out Turning Point USA chapters. We have chapters in the works in places such as Chicago, Indianapolis, and Detroit. Many of our chapters are places where conservative often don’t go, but we’re not afraid to share our message of limited government there!
I’ve had successful org fairs at many large schools like Marquette, University of Illinois, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where we talked to students about our national debt, free speech, and capitalism. Students want to know more about the ways government is hurting them, whether it’s through taxing their Netflix, trying to ban Uber, or restricting their free speech rights.
One of the more interesting encounters thus far has been being told that capitalists are selfish for believing private property and for not reducing our standard of living in favor of animals (even though we can protect the environment AND have a high standard of living!). Of course despite our progress, we still have plenty of work to do, evidenced by a student who told us that Venezuela is happier now that they’re freed from having to find jobs (now that’s a new way to describe chronic unemployment and poverty!).
In the coming weeks we’re going to take our message as far as Grand Forks, North Dakota when we do a week long tour of the Dakotas, promoting the benefits of fossil fuels. I’m sure we’ll find a couple more environmentalists that will have some not-so-kind words for us!
