My first month of fieldwork has been very productive. It started with a debate watch party at Malone University. A week later, hundreds of scarves were distributed promoting National School Choice Week; this led to over 150 sign ups for the week! We had a very positive response from students on why school choice is important. They were very supportive of this cause and in addition to handing out scarves, students also personalized their own signs (seen below) stating why they supported school choice.
Meanwhile, at Youngstown State University, Kelly Motika and I were featured in a video in the University’s online newspaper promoting Turning Point USA and National School Choice week. A chapter has been started and officially recognized at Kent State University. We tabled at their org fair and had an extremely productive day. We got over 90 sign ups and promoted capitalism and its benefits to students. Ron Swanson served as an excellent mascot too!
Following Nation School Choice Week, I Heart Capitalism Week, which included chapter meetings at Kent, as well as Ashland University, where push back from some college socialist groups was enormous. This student socialist group (pictured below) at Cleveland State University purposely set up next to us to compete with our table, which was a very capitalistic thing to do really.
