Turning Point USA has compiled a list of the top conservative colleges in America.  Schools were evaluated based on their academic programs, mission statements, and overall friendliness to conservative values and conservative students.

The King’s College


Based in New York City, the King’s College is a growing liberal arts college that values honor, excellence, and Christian values.  According to its website, The King’s College, “seeks to transform society by preparing students for careers in which they help to shape and eventually to lead strategic public and private institutions.” All courses at King’s are taught by Christians who are accomplished in their fields and bring a wide range of experience to their classroom.

King’s students are members of “houses,” each of which is named after a prominent conservative such as Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill, and C.S. Lewis.

Hillsdale College


Hillsdale College is known nationally for being an academic haven for conservatives. All students, regardless of major, are required to take a class on the U.S. Constitution, and the college prides itself in a rigorous academic program grounded in Judeo-Christian values.

Its website states that, “The College values the merit of each unique individual, rather than succumbing to the dehumanizing, discriminatory trend of so called “social justice” and “multicultural diversity,” which judges individuals not as individuals, but as members of a group and which pits one group against other competing groups in divisive power struggles.”

Grove City College


Grove City’s slogan is, “Because Faith and Freedom Matter.” The college strives to provide a high quality liberal arts education while also developing students’ spiritual life and moral character. Grove City’s three foundational pillars are a rich academic tradition, an amazing value and a Christ-centered community.

Grove City does not accept any federal financial aid, and is therefore able to operate without government interference.

Liberty University


Liberty University commits to a curriculum based in biblical truth, and is strongly affiliated with the Baptist Church. All students are required to attend chapel at least three times per week, and students are known for their conservative social and economic values.

College of the Ozarks


The College of the Ozarks is a unique educational institution.  Rather than paying tuition to attend, College of the Ozarks students work in a work-study program.  Students participate in character education programs and are expected to abide by a dress code and honor code. According to its website, “The vision of College of the Ozarks is to develop citizens of Christ-like character who are well-educated, hard-working, and patriotic.”

Regent University


Regent University offers a rigorous academic environment with degrees in fields such as divinity, government, law, and leadership. Regent prides itself in being both conservative and Christian. The curriculum emphasizes smaller government, strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values. The Ronald Reagan Symposium—one of Regent’s signature events—features well known scholars who speak on topics such as “The Future of Conservatism” and “The Future of American Culture.”

Brigham Young University 


Brigham Young University is a private university, owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS). It is the largest religious university in the country. BYU offers coursework on political thought, free market capitalism, and military service. Students are expected to follow a dress code and actively practice the socially conservative principles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

 Ave Maria University


Ave Maria is a small Catholic school known nationally for its strong academic program and Catholic faith community.  Students at Ave Maria tend to be very socially conservative. Mass is popular among students, and is offered multiple times each day. Students for Life is one of the university’s most popular campus organizations, and a large group of students attend the March for Life each year.

Pepperdine University


Located in the beautiful city of Malibu, CA, Pepperdine University offers a rigorous academic program and a Christ-centered community. While the college was originally non-denominational, it is now affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Attending chapel is not required, but there are many chapels on campus for students to use. All students, regardless of major, take courses in the Western Heritage, Religion, and the American Experience.

Patrick Henry College


Patrick Henry College is a private Christian school located 40 miles outside of Washington, DC.  The college’s slogan is “For Chris and for Liberty.” Like Hillsdale College and Grove City College, the college does not accept federal aid or loans.  The Patrick Henry curriculum culminates in apprenticeship. Students gain practical experience and conduct research through top-level internships in Washington, D.C., and beyond.
