Is this 1984?! This is INSANE.
Teachers at Mountain View High School in Boise, Idaho, have successfully campaigned for the school’s Turning Point USA chapter to be banned, claiming the chapter’s Instagram content was causing “disruption to the staff and educational setting.”
What was the Instagram content that threatened the teachers enough to ban opposing political speech? Oh, you know, just the craziest, most radical, far-right content imaginable… Thomas Sowell quotes a Jordan Peterson video explaining how “White Privilege is a Myth” and, worst of all, the post that solidified the chapter’s ban: a post that said, “Feminism Sucks.” The horror!
Those teachers are so brave, thank goodness they had the courage and mental fortitude to shut down opposing speech from teenage students, instead of engaging in an open discussion, hosting a debate, or perhaps even LEAVING THEM ALONE because this is America and that used to be the standard way to behave. (Please note my sarcasm.)
Here’s the troubling trend: leftists are getting increasingly savvy with their attacks on free speech. They know a boring old attack on offensive language isn’t enough, so they push it further; conservative speech isn’t just offensive, it’s disrupting. It’s threatening. It’s violent. It puts others at risk, so it can’t possibly be allowed.
Kudos to the young men who defended their content and chapter and stood up to the radical teachers. We cannot allow this cancel culture and erasure of all conservative viewpoints to go unchecked!
