Tucker Carlson and Fox News have agreed to part ways effective immediately, according to a press release published this morning by Fox News Media. Carlson’s last program with the network was last Friday, April 21.
“We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.“
Fox News’ statement regarding the departure of Tucker Carlson
As the host of Tucker Carlson Tonight, Carlson has been Fox’s top-rated host for the last few years and has gained more viewers per night than any other political commentator on cable television. The news that Carlson will be leaving Fox News is a shock to many and the exact reason has yet to be announced.
Just yesterday, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sat down with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki and accused Fox News of inciting violence and spreading misinformation. The congresswoman went on to imply that voices at Fox like Carlson’s should be censored. “I believe that when it comes to broadcast television, like Fox News, these are subject to federal law, federal regulation in terms of what’s allowed on air and what isn’t,” she stated.
After news circulated that Carlson would be leaving Fox, the left broke out into celebration. The View host Whoopi Goldberg announced Carlson’s departure from Fox News and the audience erupted into applause and cheers. The hosts then proceed to do “the wave” on camera to celebrate.
Despite the cheers from the left, it is highly unlikely that Carlson’s political career is over. While it is unclear at this time why exactly Carlson and Fox have parted ways, Carlson is expected to continue his brand of conservative commentary and investigative journalism elsewhere. The former Fox News host amassed an average of 3 million viewers a night, a number significantly higher than anyone else in cable news.
