Dylan Mulvaney, the trans activist who has gained notoriety for his “365 Days of Girlhood” videos, has just been named “Woman of the Year” by an LGBTQ magazine in the UK.
On Wednesday, the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards were held in the United Kingdom, an LGBTQ awards show held by “Attitude” magazine, sponsored by Virgin Atlantic Airlines. During the show, biological male, Mulvaney, was given the “Woman of the Year” award sharing that he has now been a “woman” for “560 days.”
“I only publicly came out online 560 days ago,” Mulvaney began, “and some people don’t see me as a woman at all,” he stated to the crowd. He then went on to categorize those that do not see him as a woman as “hateful.”
“No matter how hard I try, or what I wear, or what I say, or what surgeries I get, I will never reach an acceptable version of womanhood by those hateful people’s standards,” he stated during his speech, “but as long as I have the queer community that sees me for my truth, I’m gonna be okay,” Mulvaney shared.
He then went on to discuss how happy he was that the event was held in the UK as his experience in the US has recently involved what he categorizes as being labeled, “the trans beer girl,” a reference to the video Mulvaney shot earlier this year with a custom can of Bud Light which the company sent him to celebrate his official one year of “being a woman.” The video ultimately cost the company over $20 billion dollars with Bud Light ultimately retracting their support for Mulvaney.
Many women worldwide spoke out against Mulvaney receiving the award, stating that he is ultimately a man. The CEO of the UK’s LGB Alliance, Kate Barker, who runs the non-profit advocacy group that recognizes and promotes biological sex over “gender,” stated that Attitude Magazine giving Mulvaney the award was “completely gaslighting women.”
“What underpins this is really a much more serious misogyny and a much more pervasive disdain for women,” Barker stated during an interview on TalkTV.
Many other women took to social media to highlight the irony of how in 2023 men are better than women at everything, even being a woman.
