With millions of Americans locked in their homes after being starved of sports for months—now restricted to watching almost exclusively on TV—you would think that ratings for Game 1 of the NBA Finals would skyrocket. Sadly, for the wokest professional sports league in the nation, it’s the exact opposite that’s true.
Viewership is very much setting records, just the wrong kind. Viewership has continued to decline as the NBA Finals progress. Game 1 of the Finals saw a 50 percent plunge in views and a low average rating of 4.1. Shortly after, Game 2 took the lead with a 55 percent drop in viewership and an average rating of just 3.5. When Game 3 aired on Sunday, viewership declined by a whopping 56 percent and a tragic average rating of 3.1.
It seems even Lebron James and the storied Lakers franchise couldn’t lure Americans back to the pastime they once faithfully supported (or perhaps “King James” is helping drive them away).
So what changed?
In September, Forbes released a poll reporting that 39 percent of sports fans said they watched fewer games this season because the NBA had become “too political.” As a result, NBA viewership has tanked by 45 percent so far this year. It turns out that basketball fans don’t care about watching millionaire athletes cite all the oppressed ways.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that BLM Inc. messages would likely not be displayed on the court or on team jerseys next season. Smart move, Adam. This should go without saying, but virtue signaling to the leftist mob burning down our country and inciting violence against police officers doesn’t entice everyday, decent Americans to tune in.
Better luck next year, NBA, but I, for one, don’t plan on coming back anytime soon.
