Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, an illegal immigrant from Honduras was arrested for committing armed robbery but was later found to be the perpetrator of the rape of a 14-year-old girl last week in Kenner, Louisiana.

19-year-old Castellanos-Orellana was arrested on Sunday in Kenner, Louisiana after confronting an individual who was exiting his vehicle, demanding his belongings, and subsequently stabbing him in the back and face. The victim is reportedly in stable condition after being promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, and Castellanos-Orellana was arrested. The officer that arrived on-scene stated that they found Castellanos-Orellana “covered in blood.”

Following his arrest, the police department found that Castellanos-Orellana was wanted for the rape of a 14-year-old girl that was reported just one week prior. Police stated that the 14-year-old girl notified police that she has been communicating with Castellanos-Orellana through social media and after meeting him in person, he held a knife to her throat and raped her.

Kenner Police Department Chief, Keith Conley, emphasized the challenges faced by law enforcement in identifying suspects like Castellanos-Orellana due to their lack of documentation as illegal immigrants. Additionally, Castellanos-Orellana was known to use various aliases, further complicating efforts to track his criminal activities.

“In a 25-day period, this illegal alien caused terror in our community. We are glad he is off our streets, but will he be back? Will he have a new identity? What other crimes has he committed since he crossed our borders?” Conley said.

This shocking case further adds to the recent series of extremely violent crimes perpetrated by illegal immigrants, adding to the recent tragedy of the killing of 22-year-old Laken Riley by a Venezuelan migrant who was in the U.S. illegally.

These high-profile cases are part of a broader crisis that has been ongoing at the U.S. southern border. In the last fiscal year, over 2.4 million migrant encounters were recorded by Customs and Border Protection. As these violent acts continue to unfold, a large percentage of American voters state that immigration is their biggest concern this election season, and politicians on both sides of the aisle have increased calls for stricter enforcement of the U.S.-Mexico border.
