Lynn University in Florida has become the latest school to formally reject the formation of a Turning Point USA chapter on campus.
After repeatedly promising students who sought registered student organization status that the process for recognition would be easy, saying it would only take a week or two and most certainly happen, the school abruptly changed course. Lynn’s student government did approve the recognition of TPUSA, but the school’s administration decided to override the decision.
Turning Point USA Lynn Chapter President, Christina explained how the university has pushed back, saying, “Lynn University told me I could start my own activist club on campus separate from Turning Point, but I didn’t want to do that because I felt it was selfish of me to cut Lynn students off from the amazing opportunities that Turning Point can offer! I hope Lynn University will reconsider their decision because I feel Turning Point could be a great asset on campus.”
After denying recognition to the TPUSA chapter, the university emailed the organization’s student leaders to inform them they could not have a social media account with the name of Lynn University.
Turning Point Lynn Chapter Vice President, Walter shares the same sentiments as many conservatives on campus. “I do not support the decision that Lynn university made and I feel political targeting bias may potentially play a role in the denial of the Turning Point USA request to charter,” Walter explained. “However, I am upset and would like Lynn University to reconsider their decision or at least let us speak to the university administration.”
Many conservative students are starting to realize that universities are not living up to the standards and values that attracted them to attend in the first place. “It’s kinda disappointing to see an institution that paints a picture of student involvement and allowing students to have a voice just shoot down something like this,” said a Turning Point chapter member. “It’s one of the main reasons why I attended this institution.”
Lynn students–we stand with you! If you are connected to Lynn University, reach out to the administration on behalf of these students! Our communities need to rally around these students and show them the support that they need. Keep up the fight for recognition on campus!
