The NBA’s hypocrisy knows no end. In 2016, the NBA pulled the All-Star Game from Charlotte over a transgender bathroom bill. Fast-forward to this week and the NBA announced it will be hosting two preseason games in the Arab Emirates and the Arabian Gulf next season, a place known for several human rights violations. Plain and simple, homosexuality is considered a crime and punishable by death in the Arab Emirates.
According to the United Arab Emirates, any lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender can be punished by facing: hefty fines, forced mental health treatment, life in prison, chemical castration, flogging and/or execution.
The preseason games include the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks who are scheduled to play on Oct. 6 and Oct. 8 at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi during the 2022 preseason.
To nobody’s surprise, the woke mob is silent.
I thought the NBA was supposed to be on the forefront of standing for gay rights. I thought they were supposed to be allies. Where is the outrage? Why aren’t the Bucks boycotting a playoff game for this?
The truth is, the NBA doesn’t really care about equal rights, especially overseas. If the paycheck is big enough, they’ll compromise.
In November 2021, the NBA signed a multi-year partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, which included preseason games and launching junior NBA leagues for boys and girls at schools and academies throughout the Emirates. In addition, the NBA will be building fit clinics to encourage and promote health and wellness for citizens and residents meanwhile citizens across this region continue to face torture, censorship, physical and sexual abuse and death for same-sex marriages.
Here’s why this is so hypocritical:
Back in 2016, the NBA pulled the 2017 NBA All-Star game out of Charlotte after North Carolina signed a bill that bans transgender people from using bathrooms in accordance with their gender identities. Put simply, if it says male on your ID and birth certificate, you go to the men’s restroom. Same for females. Seems like common sense, right? Not to the NBA. They promoted a false narrative that North Carolina was transphobic and celebrated Jacob Blake as some sort of hero for social justice that deserved to be idolized.
The NBA pretends to care about minorities and protect the “most vulnerable” in our society. The truth is, they will do anything for money when it comes to China, Marxist organizations like Black Lives Matter, oppressive regimes like the United Arab Emirates, and others.
