It appears that Walmart has made it very clear that they are against firearm owners and gun rights.

According to a recent report by Breitbart, Walmart has been videoing all gun sales in their stores as part of their “Responsible Firearm Sales” policy. Per Walmart’s website, the company will “videotape the point of sale for firearms and only allow certain trained associate[s] to sell firearms.”

Essentially, every time a gun is purchased at a Walmart store, the company is watching to monitor what individuals are purchasing them. The question is, why? Is it because leadership is liberal or woke? It sure looks like it.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon has lobbied for an assault rifle ban and stronger gun control laws. He has even temporally paused gun sales in his stores, limited ammunition purchases, and enacted regulations around sales. Walmart has changed its stance on carrying a firearm in its stores as well by prohibiting open carry even in states where it is legal.

From a legal perspective, the grocery store chain has the right to monitor transactions on its property. Customers have no expectation of privacy in a public store (unless they are in a restroom or changing area). The store can also argue that they have a duty to protect customers with video, and therefore they are keeping recordings. That is a reasonable argument.

As to Walmart’s duty to its shareholders, that’s a little more dicey. Given that guns are such a polarizing issue some shareholders, who are against them will be happy when they make restrictions. Others who do not like the infringement on the Second Amendment will be upset. At the end of the day, Walmart leaders have a duty to act in the best interest of the shareholders, not woke ideologues.
