In an effort to reduce high gas prices, President Biden is now calling on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for the next three months.

Gas is taxed at both the federal and state level, with each state differing in the amount they tax. If Congress places a hold on the federal gas tax, prices will temporarily go down in all states.

So how much will the consumer save with this tax reduction?

A whopping 18 cents per gallon.

Gas prices are at their highest in recent memory. This month, gas prices hit an average of $5 a gallon NATIONWIDE. With prices this high, 18 cents per gallon does little to alleviate the financial stress of filling up a gas tank.

This policy effort is so insignificant that it’s laughable. It’s similar to last year when the White House bragged about lowering 4th of July food costs by only 16 cents.

It’s also worth noting the multi-layered hypocrisy of the call for suspending the federal gas tax. First, liberals routinely disagree with conservatives that tax cuts help the economy. Second, it’s the left that has been calling for a CARBON TAX to help climate change, something that obviously will raise gas prices for everyone!

Let’s not forget that the White House has routinely stated that the President has no control over gas prices, but then claims he will do everything in his power to help bring them down.

And of course, a federal gas tax suspension will not be politically beneficial for the left; the three-month duration will end right before the midterms, meaning gas prices will go up right before voters go to the polls. Smart thinking!
