President Trump Delivers Remarks to Press from White House

President Donald Trump announced that he wrote a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei expressing desire to get a nuclear deal done. The President expressed his intentions and thoughts about the subject with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo:

Amid reports of Russia helping the United States with negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran, President Trump stated:

“There are two ways Iran can be handled: militarily or you make a deal. I would prefer to make a deal because I’m not looking to hurt Iran. They’re great people.”

He emphasized the Iranian people and not the political regime in power. In light of the preferences of other nations regarding a more offensive approach to Iran, the President prefers to pursue a deal instead of launching an attack:

“I would rather negotiate a deal. I’m not sure that everybody agrees with me. But we can make a deal that would be just as good as if you won militarily.”

The President is eager to get a deal:

“The time is happening now, the time is coming up. Something’s going to happen one way or the other. I hope that Iran – and I’ve written them a letter – will negotiate because if we have to go in militarily it’s going to be a terrible thing for them.”

President Trump revealed that he wrote the letter to the Khamenei on Wednesday.

If Iran doesn’t receive the letter, the other alternative, according to Trump, is to take military action because Iran can’t “have a nuclear weapon.”

According to Newsweek, the Iranian Mission told the United Nations that the country had yet to receive Trump’s letter.

“There will be some interesting days ahead,” President Trump said about Iran during a press conference from the White House on Friday.

“We’re down to the final strokes with Iran… we’re at the final moments. We can’t let them have a nuclear weapon.”

The President also said he would’ve made a deal with Iran if he won the election in 2020.
