Modern-day relationships have become focused entirely on self-fulfillment, rather than completing one’s role that they have taken on in their families, workplaces, and communities. American culture has promulgated the idea that every relationship must be self-serving, children are burdensome, and the misguided notion that “self-love” is a justification for selfishness. Progressive ideals such as these have destroyed marriages, families, and communities.

As a result, divorce rates are through the roof, Americans are having fewer children than ever, and more than half of the U.S. population has reported feeling lonely.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Surgeon General released an advisory titled “Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation” which identifies numerous causes of social isolation — but proposes all the wrong solutions.

The advisory creates six “pillars” to address feelings of isolation. Each pillar proposes grand ideas that overhaul American society and pull local communities further under the federal government’s jurisdiction to fight the newest public health crisis: loneliness

If implemented, the U.S. Surgeon General’s advisory would destroy tradition in exchange for the appearance of togetherness — 15-minute cities, public transportation to replace individual commuting, and more public safety nets to substitute the role of the family. The ultimate solution — promoting strong marriages and families by removing incentives to divorce and parent alone — is glossed over.

The key to reducing loneliness is not more government intervention in Americans’ personal lives, it’s taking the initiative to pursue marriage, have children, and play an active and contributing role in your community. TPUSA CEO and Founder Charlie Kirk said it best: “Pursue God, Get Married, Have a Family.”
