In mid-September, Arby’s restaurant premiered a new burger unique to the fast-food market. The burger, aptly named the “Big Game Burger,” features 34% farm-raised venison, 33% elk, and 33% beef.
The Big Game Burger consists of the blended game patty, crispy onions, pickles, and Swiss cheese, and is topped with a dark cherry sauce on a toasted bun. I was a bit skeptical that a fast-food joint could make a wild game burger that didn’t taste like cardboard, so I decided to try it myself.
The burger I received didn’t look too appetizing and not at all like the advertised picture, but I dug in anyway. The patty itself was very thick and actually tasty! It was moist and had really good flavor, especially with the dark cherry sauce. I would say it is a good burger and very filling! I definitely couldn’t finish the whole thing!
In conjunction with the burger rollout, Arby’s hosted an outdoor adventure hike to the most remote Arby’s in the world located in the Colorado Rockies. They also released limited edition merchandise for purchase on their website.
Although one would think that hunters would not be interested in purchasing a burger made with big game meat, this is not the first time Arby’s has released products containing “wild” meat. They have previously released sandwiches made from venison, duck, and elk in areas highly populated with hunters and the sandwiches have always sold out in minutes!
