The Twitterverse is starting to unravel!
This past week, many Twitter accounts that have been banned from the platform for arbitrary reasons have been restored, and it’s driving people crazy. Prior to Elon Musk’s takeover of the company, there were numerous conservative voices who were shut down by the tech company for “violating their policies,” but this standard had not been applied equally across the political spectrum. But with the company under new ownership, Musk is eager to reinstate accounts and restore freedom of speech to the platform.
The most notable account restored this last week was none other than former President Donald Trump. The reinstating of the President’s account was decided by a Twitter poll from Musk’s account. Whether or not Musk would actually make his decision depending on the results of the poll is unknown. Regardless, President Trump won the poll after more than 15 million Twitter users voted:
Conservatives everywhere were so excited when Musk lifted the suspension on President Trump’s account, waiting to see what his first words will be on the platform. But although the former president’s account is now active, it appears that he may stay off Twitter and use his own social media platform, Truth Social, instead.
The former president wasn’t the only major conservative account that was freed from Twitter’s subjective bans. Founder and CEO of Project Veritas, James O’Keefe, is back on the platform. O’Keefe has made quite a name for himself due to his undercover journalism over the last three years where he’s shed light on the corruption in media and government institutions like the DOJ, FBI, and the Department of Education.
O’Keeffe took to Instagram to happily let his followers know he and Project Veritas are longer suspended. He expressed that he plans to release more breaking news across all platforms to continue to inform the public about insider information in our government.
Among other accounts restored is the famous satire account The Babylon Bee, which was suspended for calling Rachel Lavine a man. TPUSA contributor Savanah Hernandez, whose account was banned after President Trump retweeted her, was restored yesterday as well.
Twitter is now open and back to what it was before the totalitarian takeover of the platform. But the war on free speech is still in full effect. Musk’s efforts on Twitter seem praiseworthy, and it is important to remember that a community is at its best when it allows competing ideas to be heard and debated.
