1619 Project founder Nikole Hannah-Jones has revealed in a new interview that she was “embarrassed” when her veteran father placed an American flag outside of her childhood home. Pardon me while I die of shock.
If you hadn’t heard of it, the 1619 Project seeks to somehow backdate America’s founding to the date African slaves were first brought to America. Hannah-Jones won the Pulitzer Prize for this far-left tripe that has been heavily criticized for its lack of historical accuracy, but the “we hate America” crowd loves it.
As for the American flag that flew in the yard of her childhood home, she says: “I was deeply embarrassed by this outward show of patriotism from my father. I understood that Black Americans were still second-class citizens. This was a man was born on a cotton plantation in apartheid Mississippi, one of the smartest men that I knew but who had never had any real opportunities in this country. And yet, here he was exhibiting patriotism. He was a veteran.”
What’s sad here is that Hannah-Jones never took the time to understand or explore why a veteran like her father would love America. To leftists like her, America can only ever be portrayed or seen to Black Americans as a place of hurt, subjugation, and racism. It is beyond their comprehension that a Black American – even one in their own family could love this country despite all of its faults and transgressions towards African-Americans – and yes, that includes slavery.
As a Black American who fundamentally loves America precisely because of its promise and hope, let me be clear: I will NEVER hate America no matter how many leftists attempt to make it fashionable. The only embarrassment is her.
