Do you think the government should own our land?

After doing some research, I have found some interesting stats on how much our land is privately owned vs. public land.

Based on percentages- Alaska, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, and Oregon come in with the most public land, with Alaska being the most with 95.8% public, and the other 4.2% is privately owned. On the other side, we have states like Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Rhode Island, who most of that land is privately owned. Rhode Island comes in with the most privately owned land, with only 1.5% of the states total land being public.

There have been arguments on each side wanting land to either be more private or more public. Advocates to have more private land argue that the government shouldn’t own our land. While people who want to keep land public fight back by saying it gives them access to land and outdoor activities, they otherwise would not have it privately owned.

Which side are you on? What arguments do you have on why you think land should be private or public?
