The Elk Population in Kentucky is Thriving Again Because of Hunters
Another true testimony as to how hunting helps conserve a species!
In the early 19th century, elk were a rare sight to see in the Eastern United States and the entire population of elk was completely eradicated in Kentucky altogether.
It was because of hunters that this species was reintroduced and their population is currently thriving. Hunters saw the value in having elk in their wildlife ecosystem and encouraged hunters to conserve the species.
Through organizations like the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundations, RMEF, it has been made possible that elk have been reestablished into Kentucky and other Eastern states.
Take a look at the graphic below that shows the growth of elk numbers across time because of hunters fighting to save them:
Blood Origins is a nonprofit organization that aims to convey the truth about hunting.
This is just one story about how a species has overcome dwindling numbers and hunters step in to save them.
